Eight Degrees Brewing is bringing four gold stars from the 2015 Great Taste awards home to Mitchelstown. The results of the Great Taste 2015 food awards were released this week and all at the brewery were delighted to learn that both Howling Gale Irish Pale Ale and Sunburnt Irish Red Ale were awarded two stars.

Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers, judged by over 400 of the most demanding palates belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs, producers and a host of food writers and journalists.

‘We were thrilled to get the news about the Great Taste Awards,” said Cameron Wallace, co-owner/brewer at Eight Degrees Brewing. “Last year was the first time we entered, winning three stars, and it’s good to build on that success.”

Howling Gale Irish Pale Ale and Sunburnt Irish Red Ale are two of the brewery’s core range of beers, first launched in 2011. The judges commented that Howling Gale Irish Pale Ale had “plenty of hops, well rounded, full of flavour…” adding that Sunburnt Irish Red Ale was “…almost jasmine on the nose; very well-balanced flavour.”

“The win also coincides with the fact that we are reaching quite a significant milestone at the brewery with our 1,000th brew taking place today,” said Wallace. “To celebrate the Great Taste awards and our millennial beer, we’re brewing an extra special imperial IPA which we will launch at the Irish Craft Beer and Cider Festival in the RDS from 27 to 29 August.” Eight Degrees Brewing will also appear at The Big Grill BBQ & Craft Beer Festival in Dublin’s Herbert Park from 13-16 August.

2015 has already been a successful year for Eight Degrees Brewing, with The Full Irish IPA being named Beer of the Year by independent Irish consumer group Beoir and Hurricane IPA taking a bronze medal at the Dublin Beer Cup. Eight Degrees Brewing was also highly commended in the Food & Drink category at the Small Firms Association Awards.
