The Dark Hedges in County Antrim, Northern Ireland

Christy Jackson Nicholas, Author and Artist

This mystical spot has recently received a lot of attention as a brief filming location for the TV show, Game of Thrones (the last scene in Season 1, as Arya is leaving Kings’ Landing).

The trees are 200 year old beech trees, lining what was once the entrance to a grand manor house, once owned by the Stuart family. The place is supposedly haunted by the ‘Grey Lady’, and the atmosphere certainly warrants such a belief. It is an intriguing and magical place.

The place has many moods, depending on the time of day and year. It’s in County Antrim, not far from the town of Ballymoney.

Don’t miss information on Celtic myth and history, as well as practical travel planning tips, and hidden places, in my travel books. And watch out for my upcoming historical fantasy novel, Legacy of Hunger!
