12 Christmas Traditions That Are Truly Irish


There are certain Christmas traditions that are truly Irish… below is my idea of what are the top 12:

1. 8th of December – Farmers Shopping Day



The beginning of Christmas in Ireland is marked by National Famrmers Shopping Day on the 8th of December.

2. The Big Clean-Up



It is tradition in every Irish household to clean the entire house before any Christmas decorations can be put up. What most people don’t realise is that this is a long standing tradition, years ago people all over Ireland used to whitewash their houses and sheds in December.

3. The Holly Wreath

The Holly Wreath is commonplace on Irish Frontdoor at Christmas time, this tradition has spanned generations. Years ago only the very rich and the shops in town could afford such luxuries as outdoor lights but every house had a Holly Wreath on their front door.
